LAST STEALTH BREAK

A highlight of my 25-year career was to have undertaken the last air-to-air flights and squadron operations with the famous F-117 Nighthawks of the US Air Force in their final months of operation with the 49th FW.

This particular flight involved the four-ship of 'Stealth Fighters' launching out of Holloman AFB about 90 minutes before sunset in order to execute a series of daylight images over the White Sands of New Mexico (to depict the 'flag jet' painted up for the official retirement), before flowing into a series of sunset set-ups for a set of truly iconic images. These were shot just a few weeks before the type's official retirement in April 2008.
